I teach all ages, styles and levels of ability.  Lessons are tailored towards students’ Vaughan

ambitions.  My teaching style can be adjusted to accommodate any learning style.  I also teach using a mix of ‘ear’ and theory.

Students can expect to learn how to play interesting music, tailored to their interests.   Technique, and co-ordination, will be built to enable the student to acquire the skills necessary to play at the level they wish to attain.

In general, I teach music through history.  I feel, it is not possible to know current music without knowing the music that came before it.  The path I usually follow begins with fundamentals taught through Blues, and Rock and Roll.  After learning some theory, scales and shapes the journey can take any direction.

That being said, I feel it is also important to make learning relevant for each individual student.  As part of my curriculum, I like to work with material, or songs that students bring in.  This may be anything from an article in Bass Player magazine, to an MP3 of a students’ favourite band.  I am open to all music.  All music is acceptable.  I enjoy talking about all styles of music.

I can also include school curriculum as a support system for the school band program - providing a greater emphasis on chart reading, note reading, theory, hand technique, including: slapping and popping; picking; and finger.

Realizing that some younger students may be in a variety of activities, the joy of music is stressed, over  all else.  Having kids myself, I can appreciate the pressure that can go along with kids in activities.  Lessons are kept light and fun.

Lessons are taught in a safe residential neighbourhood, half a block from a major bus route, with is ample parking on the street.

Bring a bass, a strap, and an open mind.  Let’s get creative!
